Yes, the EHCP is registered as a non-profit company of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas under the Companies Act of 1992.
Our primary goals in 2024-2026 include restoration of Elizabeth Harbour’s ecosystem by improving water quality and protecting critical habitat like seagrass and coral reefs. Please see other priorities under our strategic plan here.
As a non-profit organization, the EHCP has been successful in obtaining grant funding for our recent projects. We are in the process of establishing a sustainable revenue stream through our moorings program to provide additional support for our work.
Grant funding is restricted to an approved budget for the activities of our charitable projects and programs that supports our mission.
Mooring fees support our goal of protecting the ecosystem of Elizabeth Harbour. Fees will be used to ensure that the moorings are properly managed and maintained, and excess funds will be used to support water quality and habitat monitoring programs, educational programs, and efforts to improve safety in the harbour.
The EHCP completed the installation of 64 moorings in December 2023. We have committed to bi-annual inspections and maintenance by a professional moorings company in addition to our own ongoing checks and inspections throughout the year. Moorings fees will be used to ensure the moorings are well-maintained.
At this time, the EHCP only provides mooring services, though we aim to work with local entrepreneurs to provide additional services, such as pumpout, trash collection and concierge services. Please contact our office to learn more.
