Accounting Consultant
Description
The EHCP is seeking a licensed accountant to support our small but growing non-profit / civil society organization. The ideal candidate for this contract position has experience with non-profit accounting in The Bahamas. Applicants must be Bahamian.
About EHCP
The mission of the Elizabeth Harbour Conservation Partnership is to guide the ecologically sustainable development of the coastal zone and waters of Elizabeth Harbour with the aim of enhancing tourism, fisheries, and recreational use, through stakeholder education and participation, and collaborative management of harbour facilities, for the benefit of present and future generations.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Board Treasurer, the Accountant serves an important role in the oversight of EHCP’s operations, performing tasks to maintain the accounting and financial functions of the organization. The Accountant is responsible for all financial records, including the generation of financial reports and legal compliance with financial reporting requirements and payment of taxes and fees.
The Accountants responsibilities include, but are not limited to timely tracking of invoices and payables, maintaining all financial records, reconciling bank accounts and financial transactions, ensuring accounting forms/files are up to date, and producing reports as directed by the Board Treasurer to support project oversight needs.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist the Treasurer in setting up the financial controls for the organization.
- Administer and monitor the finance system in order to ensure that the
- finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner to ensure a favorable audit each year
- Assist with preparation of the operational budget
- Support implementing financial policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain cash controls
- Prepare and reconcile bank statements
- Establish and maintain supplier/contractor accounts and processes supplier/contractor invoices
- Issue payments for all accounts due
- Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the accounting records
- Prepare income statements, cash flow statements, balance sheet, performance against project budget and quarterly reports
- Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems
- Administer employee files and records in order to ensure accurate payment of benefits, obligations & allowances
- Administer the monthly payroll in order to ensure that employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with VAT regulations and other fees and taxes due to the government
- Ensure EHCP’s concessions due to a non-profit organization are maintained
- Record and monitor incoming revenues
- Prepare year-end financial statements for review by the board and the auditors
- Produce custom reports upon request
Job Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or Certificate in Accounting/bookkeeping
- Licensed accountant in the Bahamas
- Demonstrable understanding of management and financial accounting for small businesses and non-profits;
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting software for small businesses and non-profits;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Willingness to engage in collaborative work as well self-directed work;
- Be detail oriented; and
- Good writing and MS Word skills;
- EHCP does not currently have an office and this position will be remote
- Ability to represent EHCP through their work with exemplary personal and professional conduct.
